Miranda Hutton MA, BSc

Biography

Miranda graduated with an MA in Photography from London College of Communication in 2006, building on her BSc in Anthropology from Goldsmiths, University of London. This interdisciplinary foundation has shaped her research-based practice exploring mortality, loss, and domestic space through a feminist and psychoanalytic lens.

Her photographic work has been featured in international publications including Stella magazine, Vice, and Esquire and is held in private and public collections. Notable exhibitions include solo shows at Verena Holmes Gallery and group exhibitions as part of the Family Ties Network. In 2018, she delivered a TEDx talk - 'Room to Grieve' about her series entitled The Rooms Project.

Miranda has presented papers at international symposia including the University of Helsinki's Digital Death conference and the University of Edinburgh's 'Photographs and Afterlives' symposium. Her research has been published in Photography and Culture (Taylor and Francis), and she is currently co-editing 'Photography and Afterlives' under contract with Berghahn Books, while contributing to the 'Handbook of Visual Communication' for Edward Elgar publishers.

She entered higher education in 2012 and in 2019 progressed to Senior Lecturer and Course Director for BA (Hons) Photography at Canterbury Christ Church University. In 2025, she joined Ravensbourne University as Course Leader for BA Digital Photography. She currently holds Senior Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy and serves as External Examiner for BA (Hons) Photography at the University of the West of England, having previously examined a practice-based PhD at Edinburgh College of Art.
