Get your London Design Festival ticket 

We are looking forward to meeting you on the first day on campus on Monday 14 September. 

As part of your first week we will be visiting the London Design Festival 2026 on Wednesday 16 September. This will provide you with the perfect opportunity to view a wide range of work from different designers and makers from early-stage start-up businesses, through to established brands.

One of the main events taking place at the festival is ‘Material Matters’ based in Shoreditch. The show is very popular and tickets sell out quickly, therefore you must register your details as early as possible to secure your free e-ticket via this link.

Once you have accessed the online portal, click on the student/lecturer section to complete the online registration process and remember to retain the e-ticket that will be emailed to you.  

Specific information for the visit will be confirmed by the Course Leader on your first day.

Develop your sketching skills

Explore Sketch-a-day.com which is a great learning resource to improve your sketching and rendering skills. Have a read through and practice some of the techniques as you will be doing lots more of this during your studies!

 Items required for teaching week 1: 

• Range of drawing pencils - your preference
• Eraser and sharpener
• A few marker pens inc. cool grey tones and a few colours
• Colour drawing pencils
• 1 x A3 Marker Pad
• 1 x A3 layout pad
• 1 x Sketchbook (A4 or A5)
• Curve guides (French curves or railway curves)
• Circle template guide
• Scalpel with replacement blades

The list below is very useful to have for model making as you progress on the programme (recommended – NOT essential) 

• Engineers Compass
• Drawing square
• Vernier Calipers
• Metal ruler 30cm
• Center punch
• Precision screwdriver set (small enough to take products apart)
• Drill bits 1mm-10mm (wood and metal)
• Pack of needle files
• Sandpaper, Mixed grades from wet and dry to coarse
• PVA glue
• Epoxy resin glue (such as Araldite)
• Clamps small and large
• Small hacksaw
• Small hammer
• Large scissors
• Craft knife
• Masking tape, Double sided tape, Magic tape

The above items can be stored in your own personal locker in the Product Design studio space.

As a student studying at Ravensbourne, you will have free access to the following software – this includes remote usage from your own personal computer: 

• SolidWorks (CAD)
• Adobe creative suite (all packages)
• Microsoft suite software

Your course welcome week activities will be taking place on the following dates. This is a really important time for you to meet fellow students, your course team and become part of the Ravensbourne community. These sessions will cover key information about your course and everything you need to set you up for your studies.  

Monday 14 September: 10.00am – 5.00pm, room R2-101

Wednesday 16 September: 10.00am – 4.30pm, room R2-101

All activities will take place in our R2 building: Ravensbourne University London, 4 Appleby Yard, London, SE10 0BJ

Students’ Union Welcome Festival 

Your Students' Union team is currently working on putting together a fantastic Welcome Festival, full details of all events will be released in September. To keep track of all SU events and to buy tickets visit: ravesu.org/happenings

During this week you must attend an enrolment session to complete your in-person enrolment and become an official Ravensbourne University student. Following this you will attend inductions on living and studying in the UK, have a tour of the campus and meet other students.

Thursday 10 September - Friday 11 September

In-Person Enrolment: 9.30am - 12.00pm

Please book a day and time to complete your in-person enrolment here. You must complete your in-person enrolment before attending your international induction and your first week. You only need to attend on one day.

International Induction: 12.30pm - 4.00pm

Once you have enrolled you will attend this session which covers key information about living and studying in the UK.

Activities will take place at our main campus: Ravensbourne University London, 6 Penrose Way, London, SE10 0EW

Your teaching starts in the week commencing Monday 21 September. In semester one you will have multiple teaching sessions each week as follows: 

Monday, 9.00am - 1.00pm, R2 Building - room R2-101

Monday, 2.00pm - 6.00pm, R2 Building - room R2-101

Tuesday, 9.00am - 1.00pm, R2 Building - room R2-101

Tuesday, 2.00pm - 5.00pm, R2 Building - room R2-001

If you have any questions ahead of joining us, our online drop-in sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, 1.00pm - 2.00pm UK Time.
