As you prepare to board on this exciting academic journey, we have put together some fundamental pre-arrival reading and tasks to help you start with confidence and enthusiasm. 

Semester One Module Preview

Software Design and Development: For this module learn basics of programming languages, such as: 

Python: Check out the Python Official Documentation and try some basic exercises on platforms like Codecademy or Kaggle. 

C#; You can start by reading the Microsoft C# Guide to understand its syntax and applications. 

Computer Networks and Technology: This module will introduce you to the fundamental components of computer systems and how they interact.  

Industry Knowledge and Exploring your Interest 

To maximise the benefits of the cutting-edge skills you will acquire, it's crucial to stay informed about industry trends and explore your areas of interest within computer science: 

• Identify the areas of computer science that excite you most—whether it’s artificial intelligence, software development, cloud computing, or another field. Look up introductory materials or tutorials related to your interests.
• Websites like Coursera , LinkedIn Learning and edX offer courses and resources to explore various specialisations within computer science. 

Enjoy the rest of your summer! As you get ready for September, we encourage you to nurture your curiosity and passion for technology. Come with ideas, industry knowledge and a strong desire to learn. 

Laptop requirements 

Please see our laptop requirements document to ensure you have a device that will be suitable for your studies.

It is important to have a laptop equipped with specific hardware and software to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with the course requirements.  Our recommended specifications are: 

• Processor: Intel Core i7 or higher (Intel Core i9 is recommended for best performance)
• Operating System: Windows 10 or later
• Memory (RAM): 32 GB or more
• Graphics Card (GPU): NVIDIA RTX 3060 with 16 GB of VRAM or equivalent 

At the beginning of each semester, your tutors will guide you through the installation of the necessary software to ensure you fully utilise the features and tools required for your studies. 

During this week you must attend an enrolment session to complete your in-person enrolment and become an official Ravensbourne University student. Following this you will attend inductions on living and studying in the UK, have a tour of the campus and meet other students.

Tuesday 13  & Wednesday 14 January

You will need to attend on either Tuesday or Wednesday to complete your enrolment and become an official Ravensbourne student and attend your International Induction. Please use the links below to book. 

In-Person Enrolment: 9.30am - 12.00pm

This session will start with lunch and will be a chance to meet students from other courses and get key information about living and studying in the UK. Please use this link to book you place.

Thursday 15 & Friday 16 January 

Course Induction: 11.00am - 5.00pm, room R1-901

Your course induction will cover key information about your course and everything you need to set you up for your studies - meet fellow students, your course team and become part of the Ravensbourne community!

Activities will take place at our main campus: Ravensbourne University London, 6 Penrose Way, London, SE10 0EW

Students’ Union Welcome Events

Your Students' Union team is currently working on putting together a series of welcome events, full details of all events will be released in January. To keep track of all Student Union events and to buy tickets visit: www.ravesu.org/happenings

Your teaching starts in the week commencing Monday 22 September. In semester one you will have three teaching sessions each week between 9.00am – 6.00pm, Monday – Friday.

Due to the size and set up of your course it is not possible to share your timetable information prior to your enrolment. Once you have completed enrolment you can find out how to check your timetable here  

If you have any questions ahead of joining us, our online drop-in sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, 1.00pm - 2.00pm UK Time, starting Friday 11 August through to Friday 30 September 2023.
