Concept and creative process
Titles for a series on the treatment of mental illness in the National Health Service, investigated by Dr Alan Maryon-Davis. Ian Hewett’s concept for the sequence was an abstract symbolic unravelling of a metal puzzle. It is seen initially in beautifully filmed close-ups of a specially made model and in the dénouement in a close-up of hands finally separating the two parts of the metal puzzle. The model was used again as the main title background.
