Theatre 625 - Talking To A Stranger (1966)

Concept and creative process

Titles for ‘Talking to a Stranger’, a play cycle in the ‘Theatre 625’ drama anthology series transmitted on BBC Two from 1964 to 1968. The plays, written by John Hopkins and directed by Christopher Morahan, starred Judi Dench in a role for which she was won a BAFTA Best Actress Award. The play cycle revealed the events of a tragic weekend told from the viewpoint of each member of a suburban family. The titles featured cut-out full face and profile portraits of the family members, focusing on a particular character for each play. The credit captions and the portraits were filmed on a rostrum camera and combined with specially photographed establishing shots of the suburban street and house.
