Tales from Marquez (1989)

Concept and creative process

The brief was to create a title sequence for 'Tales from Marquez' that brought together the common elements from a series of films that had been bought in, which were based on the stories of Gabriel Marquez. A fresh lyrical sequence was required that led seamlessly from one scene to the next - the water colour animation style of Damian Gascoigne was perfect. A simple storyboard was created and then timed against the music track selected by the producer. Animator Damian Gascoigne took the storyboard and examples of my styling and created the watercolour paintings for the animation. These were on watercolour paper. These were then shot under the video rostrum camera and assembled by Pete Willis and Malcolm Dalton at the BBC Video Rostrum.

Designer/Director - Christine Buttner (Green).
