Holiday (1996)

Concept and creative process

For the 1996 title sequence of ‘Holiday’ new animations were used as the leitmotif between new live action holiday clips. The fluid watercolour animation style of Damian Gascoigne was perfectly suited to this subject matter, as had already been shown in the 1992 ‘Holiday’ titles, which he animated for Christine Buttner (Green). The frames for the holiday footage were originally designed on a Quantel Paintbox and the watercolour animation paintings were scanned into the system and composited digitally with the live action on a Quantel Henry.
