Guy Sinclair BA, MArch, AFHEA, AMLI
Biography
Guy is a designer and researcher with a core interest in how climate and architecture interact through more-than-human relations. As well as his role at Ravensbourne University, he teaches at the University of Westminster, School of Architecture and Cities in history and theory, where he is also completing a PhD.
Guy studied at the Architectural Association and the University of Westminster, where he then went on to teach and take up research with Climate Cartographics, a new research enterprise following the work of the Monsoon Assemblages ERC funded project. His ongoing research is currently being pursued through a QHT sponsored doctoral project exploring the spaces and sites of climate science and ecotheology as complementary modes of knowledge production about planetary futures. This research maps a patchwork of productive relationships between humans, technologies and built environments that constitute institutional and everyday practices surrounding scientific and religious understandings of climate change.
He has contributed to international exhibitions and publications, including the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale V&A Applied Arts Pavilion and RIBA publishing’s The Environmental Design Sourcebook with work on architecture, materiality and technology. In addition to his academic and research experience, Guy has worked at a number of London architecture firms, most recently specialising in design for fabrication with Weber Industries employing digital design tools and making expertise to realise projects in collaboration with practices such as IF_DO, Gianni Botsford Architects and David Kohn Architects.
Guy’s interests intersect architecture, infrastructure, technology and landscape. Through continuing research and practice these interests inform a teaching agenda that seeks to address the role of climatic relations in thinking about architecture’s disciplinary response-ability in the unfolding era of the Anthropocene.
