Dr Sermet Mir BSc, PGCE, MSc, PhD, FHEA, MIET
Biography
Dr Sermet Mir is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science within the Department of Computing and Emerging Technologies at Ravensbourne University London. Since earning his PhD in 2020, he has focused on bridging the gap between advanced computational research and practical industry applications.
With over a decade of experience in higher education, Dr Mir has taught an extensive range of subjects across data science and computer science. His professional background includes a research position at Siemens Healthineers’ R&D Centre in Princeton, USA, where he contributed to advanced image visualisation, global illumination, and Monte Carlo denoising.
Dr Mir’s research expertise spans computer graphics, image processing, and computer vision, with a strong current focus on data science and machine learning. He is particularly specialised in Explainable AI (XAI) and the development and analysis of feature selection algorithms. His work aims to bridge the gap between complex visual computing and transparent, data-driven machine learning models. Dr Mir is a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
