Dr Blanca Bustamante BA, MA, PhD

Biography

Dr. Blanca Regina Perez Bustamante is an accomplished interdisciplinary educator, artist, and independent curator. She is recognised for her work in multimedia projection art and experience design. She explores how to create projects through spontaneous systems, often involving moving image, sound, objects, performance, and electronics, introducing multimedia narratives. Her practice includes book arts and the creation of unique, experimental publications.

She completed a PhD with honours in 2010, critically examining Vjing and Audiovisual Performance Art, which has since informed emerging discourse and inspired new directions in multimedia performance. She holds a Master's in Scriptwriting and Storytelling for television. Recognized by the Francis Chagrin Award and grants from Arts Council England (ACE), the British Music Collection, the British Council, and AMEXCID, her contributions have led to seminal installations at Turner Contemporary, PhotoEspaña, Mupo (Oaxaca), and the British Council in Delhi, India, advancing international collaboration and cross-cultural dialogue.

As a multimedia art advisor, designer and time-based media specialist, she has recently contributed to exhibitions by Zach Blas (Whitney Museum, NY; Secession, Vienna), Aurea Harvey (Arebyte, London) and Natural History Museum, London and designed light & video stages for performances for Southbank (Theo Croker, 2025) and Royal Albert Hall (Shabaka, 2024). With extensive experience running creative workshops for exhibitions, experiences, and events, she has developed programming that empowers artists and students to innovate in audiovisual installation art and immersive design.

As Senior Lecturer in Design at Ravensbourne University and a guest lecturer at institutions such as Westminster, Goldsmiths, University of the Arts London, and the Roundhouse, she has mentored emerging talent and contributed to curriculum development. Internationally, her workshops at UDIT in Madrid, Spain; Faro de Oriente in Mexico; and UPR in Puerto Rico, as well as specialist online workshops, have built global networks and professional skills. Supported by Madmapper & Garagecube, she has curated leading sound and visual art events in London - including at Cafe OTO and Iklectik with Unpredictable Series CIC, a company she founded in 2019 and directs - helping to shape London’s and Madrid design and audiovisual arts scene.
