Chantal Laws BA, MA

Biography

Chantal joined the teaching team for MSc Events Management in September 2025. She has twenty-five years’ experience of teaching, research and course management in creative events and has worked at several UK universities and taught internationally.

Her professional background is in arts and heritage management, having started out as an archaeological research assistant and curator before going on to manage a multi-stage Arts Council/Lottery-funded London music venue. Alongside academic work, she has helped to organise an annual fringe festival of gardening, and now volunteers as a mentor for young people wanting to access creative careers.

Alongside lecturing for Ravensbourne, Chantal teaches at Falmouth University and works as an arts administrator and project manager.

Chantal is an active researcher with publications over the past 20 years in events and related fields. She is also a reviewer for the International Journal of Event and Festival Management, and for publishers Routledge, Elsevier and Goodfellow.

Her current research interests focus on experience design for transformation, with a particular interest in:

  • Experiencescapes and narrative experience environments
  • Nature-connectedness and more than human experience
  • Creativity and creative processes
  • Dark events / heritage
  • Serious leisure
  • Digital storytelling
  • Netnography

Chantal has previously been an institutional representative for the Association for Event Management Education (AEME) and the Association of Leisure and Tourism Research (ATLAS) for many years and is currently an individual member of the Experience Research Society (EXPRESSO) and the Leisure Studies Association.
