Wildlife On Two (1984)

Concept and creative process

The opening titles for a series of documentaries about wildlife from all over the world, narrated by David Attenborough. ‘Wildlife on Two’ was the home of repeats of ‘Wildlife on One’ programmes which ran for almost 30 years from its first series in 1977. This repeat is from the 1980 series with a new ‘Wildlife on Two‘ end-board. The titles consisted of the outline form of various creatures on different textured coloured backgrounds, filmed with a tunnel zoom effect. The animation of the creatures was continuous but left behind frozen step repeats of the image which then progressively faded. The main title ‘Wildlife’ was step printed on, with the rest of the title fading in below it. It was this final shot that was filmed on a rostrum camera to replace the original end-board.
