Wildlife On One (1980)

Concept and creative process

The opening titles for a nature documentary series, narrated by David Attenborough, reused the animation from the 1977 titles of the outline form of various creatures on different textured coloured backgrounds, filmed with a tunnel zoom effect. The sequence took the form of an animation of the outline shape of various creatures, which animated across the screen, leaving behind step-repeats of the motion of each creature, which then progressively faded. The main title ‘Wildlife’ was step-printed on from the top of screen, with the rest of the title fading in below it. The sequence was filmed on a rostrum camera.
