Concept and creative process
‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ is a British genealogy documentary series that has aired on the BBC since 2004. In each episode, a celebrity traces their family tree. In this trail for the first series, featuring Bill Oddie, Meera Syal and Jeremy Clarkson among others, original photographs of locations were cleverly split into different planes and multiplane animations were created. The camera transported the viewer seamlessly from a wide shot, tracking in through the layers to a close-up of the individual celebrity, dressed in the period of the original photograph and so literally a part of their own background history.
