TV50: Television And Foreign Reporting - A Window On The World (1986)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a TV50 programme ‘A Window on the World’, in which Jonathan Dimbleby looked back on how news and current affairs had been presented on television since the 1950s. It was one of a number of programmes in a celebration of 50 years of BBC Television broadcasting since its launch in 1936. The computer-generated TV50 generic branding for the strand, designed by John Salisbury, preceded the title caption for this and all of the other TV50 programmes. The opening sequence for ‘A Window on the World’ was an edited montage of opening titles and theme music from historic BBC and independent news and current affairs programmes, topped and tailed by a typographic caption.
