'The Talk Show with Clive James' was a more serious gathering of guests around a table to discuss matters of importance to them in life, and therefore called for an altogether more sobre approach to the opening titles than viewers had experienced in other shows fronted by Clive James. The simplicity of a typographic logo, choreographed to the title music and animated by computer, filled the bill admirably.
