Saturday Briefing (1982)

Concept and creative process

Titles for ‘Saturday Briefing’, a series of programmes where Richard Lindley, with two guest questioners from Fleet Street, goes behind the headlines to cross-examine the men and women whose decisions influence our lives. The title sequence was filmed and edited in-camera on a rostrum camera. The credits were filmed from back-lit artwork, coloured and enhanced with highlights and glow filter effects. The middle section consisted of a montage of stills of parliament, politicians and current events, panning beneath a sheet of patterned glass, with animated mattes creating the transition from one to the next in-camera.
