Concept and creative process
For the title sequence the evolution of species was illustrated through the act of drawing in a specially made book. The sequence was filmed in the rostrum studio at BBC Bristol, using props to look like Darwin’s study table and the hands of an actor putting the finishing pen strokes to the drawings. A leaf through the pages showed a few stages in the evolution of the human species to homo erectus. The closing of the sketch book created the background for the maintitle. Music Sarah Class.
