Open to Question (1986)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a series in which young people from around the country put questions to guest personalities. The gradual build-up of the first part of the programme title in an animated vertical patch triggered the wiping on of a larger animating patch, which became a vignette for footage of topics and personalities, as the remainder of the programme title built up along the bottom of the screen. A zoom into the footage within the vignette triggered the appearance of the simplified programme logo, completed by the freely-drawn question mark. The sequence was edited and animated on a Quantel Harry non-linear editing tool.
