Open to Question (1976)

Concept and creative process

Titles for 'Open to Question’, a series of four television seminars in which the Dean of Emmanuel College Cambridge confronted an invited audience with his own views on questions that divided Christians of the day. This was a low budget sequence, for which I was given photographs to use in the titles. The audio was pre-recorded and had to be worked into the concept. I decided to create stylised pages as if on a lectern, which turned to reveal the photographs. This was achieved by physically shooting cut-out photos mounted onto card under a rostrum camera. The cards were shot single frame and the type was double exposed in-camera to dope sheet timings derived from the music.
