No Place Like Home (1983)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a BBC sitcom series about a middle-aged couple who plan for a quiet life once their children have left home. The faltering piano rendition of ‘Home Sweet Home’ that accompanied the zoom out from the embroidered sampler raised a doubt about the veracity of the title, further underscored when the framed heirloom spontaneously fell from the William Morris-type papered wall on which it had been hung.
