Newsround Eurostars (1998)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a children's news magazine series of ten programmes following junior "ambassadors" as they represented Britain in Europe and reported back their observations. The opening of the title sequence was re-edited each week to reflect the European destination of the young ambassador. This sequence was from the first programme of the series in which the lucky ambassador got a ticket to the opening game of the 1998 World Cup in Paris and a VIP seat. The title sequence otherwise was a reworking of the CGI ‘Newsround’ titles of the time which were created as a revolving sphere containing on its surface, among other images representing the natural and the built environment on Earth, television monitors displaying live images from around the world. The addition in the edit of an extra 3D monitor playing a shot of the ambassador with his ticket and the opening ceremony balloon release personalised the sequence. The 3D globe of the Earth which tracked back to form part of the ‘Nr’ programme logo at the end of the sequence revealed the Euro Stars logo.
