Mosaic - The Black And White Media Show (1989)

Concept and creative process

‘The Black and White Media Show’ was a series of five programmes in the ‘Mosaic’ documentary strand, which posed the question whether racism was reinforced or countered by images presented on television shows. Comedian Lenny Henry was among those offering some provocative opinions on the subject. The titles were put together in an edit suite using standard video effects to create a montage of programme clips. The designer’s role was limited to supplying the programme logo, filmed under a rostrum camera, of a live diagonal tearing of the negative top caption to reveal the positive one underneath, which neatly encapsulated the premise of the programme.
