Lee Evans - So What Now? (2001)

Concept and creative process

Titles for an eight-part sitcom written by and starring Lee Evans. The brief was to reflect a disfunctional yet endearing trio of friends. The series took place around the streets of London, which was reflected in the titles. The sequence was shot on digital video using a small camera attached to a 'donkey cam' harness. This consisted of a harness attached to the actor supporting a long pole (approx 1 metre in length) with the camera attached to the end of the pole. The camera was facing inwards towards the actor, so that he remained static within the frame, while the background moved around behind him. The shoot took place in the West End of London around Soho and Piccadilly Circus in order to make the most of the bright lights for the moving backgrounds. Wet weather helped to enhance this effect further by adding streaks and haze. The footage was edited in-house at the BBC by James Adamson in a Flame digital compositing suite.
