Concept and creative process
Opening titles for a comedy series ‘Laughing for Ages’, in which Stephen Tompkinson revealed the truth behind human history using classic comedy clips. The titles were layered and composited digitally on a Quantel Henry in the style of a latter-day Pollock’s Toy Theatre. Caricature artwork cut-outs of the comedians portraying various historical figures were animated against drop-down backgrounds, which changed as the characters entered and exited. Animated and live action effects were also incorporated into the scenes. The final curtain, bearing the programme logo, fell over the stage to complete the sequence.
