Concept and creative process
The second of two title sequences I designed for this show. I filmed a candle on which I had applied the title of the show in bold condensed sans serif capitals using Letraset instant lettering. I then filmed what happened as the candle wax melted and the lettering distorted and fell away as the candle flame burned down. I filmed a hand striking a match and setting light to the wick of the the stump of the candle. I cut this together with the original shot printed in reverse, with the effect that the candle appears to grow up before our eyes, revealing the programme title as it does so.
