The House Of Eliott (1992)

Concept and creative process

Titles for ‘The House of Eliott’, a costume drama series about two sisters who set up a London fashion house for society of the early 1920s. It was the brainchild of Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins, who had devised the highly successful ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ drama series, and it ran for 34 episodes in three series between 1991 and 1994. The title sequence established the two sisters Beatrice and Evangeline Eliott, played by Stella Gonet and Louise Lombard, in a series of studio photographic portraits. In a digital post-production edit the stills were composited over a live action background of billowing couture dress fabric.
