The Four Great Seasons (1982)

Concept and creative process

A montage of multiple tracking shots over a variety of natural landscapes at all seasons creates the background. This is further visually enhanced by the addition of enlarged details of each tracking shot framed within vignettes made out of the recognisable shape of David Bellamy's head in silhouette, mixing through to a full colour portrait of the presenter as the title fades in. Programme film footage was used to create the background, with mattes of the head shape used to combine the elements inside the vignette in a separate pass on an optical printer. The series titles and the presenter's credit were exposed with a slight drop shadow as a final pass.
