Fanny Cradock Invites You To A Cheese And Wine Party (1970)

Concept and creative process

The legendary TV cook prepares a sumptuous spread for a sophisticated soiree. Cold green omelette, anyone?

The title sequence was made from photograms of kitchen utensils and food ingredients, made by placing the objects on a sheet of unexposed photographic paper in the darkroom  and briefly exposing them to light. On development the paper appeared black everywhere except where it had been protected from exposure by the objects. These prints were then animated on the rostrum camera by simply uncovering or covering the objects with black card and by the use of camera moves. The entire sequence was captured in-camera, filmed to a dope-sheet derived from a frame-count of the music, thus eliminating the need for editing.
