Entertainment USA stings (1985)

Concept and creative process

Stings for ‘Entertainment USA’ for use as cut-ins for the show which was a look at entertainment news, clips, interviews and music from the United States, presented by Jonathan King each week from a different US city. It was a bit of a travelogue and ran 8 years from 1983 and was nominated for a BAFTA Award in 1987. The titles needed to reflect entertainment and all with an American flavour. I decided to feature American travel icons like a 747 Jumbo, a truck and a train on huge roadside billboards combined with neon. Several short stings were created to intercut between stories as bookends. The graphics were all artworked and animated by Chris Tucker. They were shot on a rostrum using front and backlit artwork.
