Dick & Dom in da Bungalow - Menu (2002)

Concept and creative process

I worked as lead designer on 'Dick & Dom in da Bungalow' for five years, leading a small team of designers producing content for the weekly live shows. I designed the content graphics such as scoreboards and menus, which were designed in such a way as to be easily updated weekly by whichever designer was working. The main bulk of the weekly work was designing stings for the games. So a system was set up to brand everything, so that it all looked part of one family. I designed the font and used clip art (as it was a tight turn around, with no time to draw individual assets). We always used the same two heads for Dick and Dom and stuck them on to clip art bodies. There were two designers working and we had two days to work on the graphics, before the weekend. We would usually be briefed on Thursday morning with a huge pile of jobs. For the stings, we would be given the title of the game and the audio, that was all, so a very open brief and we could do anything. The wackier the better. It was fab! It was always a great reaction when we would show the final animation to the producers and directors and they would belly laugh. We knew we had done our jobs properly! All the work was created using Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop.
