Concept and creative process
A visually arresting title sequence for the drama series 'Dial M for Murder' which took its inspiration from the dialling and ring tones and the action of the rotary dial telephone. This created the opportunity for interesting multiscreen live action inserts. Three circular clear holes on a black background were used as mattes to insert a live action scene into each hole, one pass for each insert. A second matte filmed as a further pass rotated anti-clockwise on the same centre as the original, thereby wiping the live action inserts in and out, and leaving a final circle to become the dot of the letter 'i' in the word 'dial'.
