Design by Five (1979)

Concept and creative process

The subject of the 'Design by Five' programme series was interior room designs in celebrities' homes created by five different established interior designers. For the titles the design concept was a camera move in through the window frame of a room from a black and white landscape outside, to reveal a coloured interior within, which was by design a colourful continuation of the monochrome view visible through the window. A small room set was built and painted to match the photographic landscape outside of the window. The move was then filmed stop frame from a camera dolly on tracks.
