Def II - Snub (1989)

Concept and creative process

Titles for ‘Snub TV’, a music show which picked the best from the independent music scene.
The low-budget, low-tech show was all no-frills and all about capturing the energy and performances happening on the UK indie-music scene. It was started by Pete Fowler and Brenda Kelly in 1987 for a US cable show and had a deliberate DIY aesthetic with no presenter and was shot on location on VHS. It was picked up by Janet Street-Porter for her ‘DEF II’ youth strand, where it aired from 1989 to 1991. In keeping with the ‘Snub TV’ DIY aesthetic, the title music was by dub, reggae and post-punk producer Adrian Sherwood and visual artists Vaughan Oliver and Me Company founder Paul White produced the titles.
