Dear Mr Barker (1995)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a programme of fascinating facts in answer to viewers' questions, hosted by a large puppet bloodhound. The scenario for the titles involved children writing and posting letters, and their collection by a postman and delivery to Mr Barker. This was achieved by a mixture of live action composited over animated backgrounds in a studio, and actual props such as giant pencils, an envelope with the address for questions on it, a post box, and a front door with a letterbox. The beginning of the letter ‘Dear Mr Barker’ was nicely animated stop motion out of separate elements falling into place to form the programme title.
