Concept and creative process
Opening titles for ‘Crackerjack’, a children's entertainment and variety show, presented by Stu Francis with The Krankies, Leigh Miles and Sally Ann Triplett. Producer Michael Hurll asked me to produce another set of titles for ‘Crackerjack’ following on from the sequence I did for the show in 1980. I went into the sound studio with Chas and Dave and recorded the title music track with lyrics by them. Working with animator Paul Cowen at Animation People we created a drawn-style animated sequence, featuring kids, Chas and Dave and Stu Francis. I designed a new logo that consisted of black italic slab-serif capital letters on coloured offset rhomboids, with a firework display to enliven the night sky background behind the logo. The animation was shot on a rostrum camera at Animation People.
