Concept and creative process
Titles for the classic teen drama set on Tyneside, about a group of young people who frequented the Byker Grove Youth Centre. It ran from 1989 to 2006 and launched the careers of many of the young actors, notably Ant and Dec. The design for the title sequence comprised a busy multiscreen background to the programme logo, arranged vertically on the left of screen with the O of GROVE animating in sync with the shouts of ‘OOH!” on the soundtrack. Still cut-out action shots of the cast animated in and out composited over the top of the background and the logo on a Quantel HAL.
