The Book Programme (1979)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for ‘The Book Programme’, a series on books and authors, presented by Robert Robinson. The title sequence was a film shoot of model books, some of which were specially cut in letter shapes and bound in red leather-covered boards. The camera panned across the assembled books in close-up as the letter-shaped pages turned and the books closed. A final pan along spines of books on a bookshelf showed, as the camera pulled back, that this too was a model, contained in a book shaped box. The closing box cover revealed the programme logo and title, against a specially designed monochrome repeat pattern of bound books.
