A Bit of Fry & Laurie (1992)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for the second series of Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie's eccentric sketch show. This madcap scenario devised by Bernard Heyes envisaged the two actors fooling around in front of camera in a jungle setting and some pyrotechnics. The film was was shot green screen in a studio with a few props. In post-production the actors were silhouetted and combined with a 2D background and the palm tree shapes. Their attempt at lighting the touch paper of the fireworks for the programme logo was only partially successful and they appear to be going out. Fry and Laurie returned to investigate and get blown away in an explosion, leaving the logo burning brightly.
