Berkeley Square (1998)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a drama series which followed the fortunes of three nannies in early 19th century London. The scene was set by the concept of an illustrated board game depicting Berkeley Square and activities in the nurseries of the houses and in the central garden of the square in Edwardian London. It was filmed live action with a computer-controlled camera in a small studio, enabling the addition of the pearls and gloves, filmed as a separate pass, to be composited as one continuous movement during post-production. The addition of the real spinning top and Jack-in-a-Box gave the sequence scale and movement.
