Antiques Roadshow (1991)

Concept and creative process

The title sequence for Series 13 of ‘Antiques Roadshow’ was shot live action on 35mm and filmed at Damson Film Studios using a dolly and tracks, blue screen and in-camera effects. Assorted antique objects of all shapes and sizes and a new logo, designed to look like a piece of inlaid wooden marquetry, were set up in the studio and filmed. The logo was also used as a vignette for live action reaction clips from the members of the public, which were inserted in the digital post-production edit. The compositing, manipulating and tracking of other scenes was also matched in post-production to the studio shoot. This gave a greater integration than ever before between the antiques, the experts and the members of the public. The programme bade farewell to Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No 3, its title music since 1979, and commissioned a new theme written by Paul Reade and Tim Gibson and published by Air Edel.
