Department of Further Education

We offer the first stage in your Ravensbourne journey. We help you in refining your creative practice and developing pathways for future undergraduate study or work.

I began the foundation course at Ravensbourne not knowing exactly what I wanted to do, but I was able to experiment with a wide range of creative roles. Inspired by the broadcasting department I went on to complete a BA (Hons) Production, which gave me valuable industry experience.

We are one of the few remaining schools that deliver Foundation and Access Diplomas in a university environment. Our students weave themselves into the fabric of the Ravensbourne way of working and studio culture.

As a student on these courses, you can take advantage of the higher education environment, with its excellent equipment and staff who work in the creative industries.

We offer direct entry into Fashion Textiles and Media Production Foundation Diploma courses alongside a broader Design and Media course.

I enjoy seeing our students progress onto Ravensbourne degree courses. They often step off the graduation stage and are set to be leaders in their field and industry.

James Ward, Associate Dean

Further Education refers to pre-degree level courses. A combination of practical studio projects, workshops and traditional academic learning will encourage you to experiment with craft and digital technology. Practicing industry professionals will introduce you to new ideas in digital media and design, including the opportunity for you to gain additional skills such as coding, life drawing and attending the broader higher education Ravensbourne Plus events and activities.

Completing the course will put you in a strong position. Our students benefit from exposure to the undergraduate experience, enabling them to hit the ground running in their first year. Over 40% of foundation students progress to Ravensbourne undergraduate programs, increasing to 50% on some of our most popular courses through our enhanced internal progression scheme. If you decide to go directly into work, we'll help you to find opportunities.
