The Late Late Breakfast Show (1982)

Concept and creative process

‘The Late Late Breakfast Show’ was a live show for young Saturday morning late risers. The production wanted a title sequence to suit the fast moving content of this new breakfast programme, as well as to complement the action man persona of its presenter Noel Edmonds. Bob Blagden’s fully story-boarded title sequence followed Noel from the moment he woke up, grabbed breakfast, jumped into his fast car, then onto his high powered speed boat, was lifted up by his personal helicopter, boarded his white taxi and arrived just in time at the studio at BBC TV Centre. The main title appeared, word by word, in context, as part of his action packed journey until it resolved itself into the logo at the end. This was an early example of a title sequence shot as live action on film and directed by the designer.
