The specifics

Course specification

In your first year you will develop the fundamentals, concepts, principles, and theories of Computer Science.

You will learn to programme in a range of languages to solve common computer science problems. You will gain an understanding of different data and information types and appropriate processing and management techniques. Demonstrate basic creative problem-solving skills as applied through Computer Science. Understand issues relating to legal, ethical and health and safety-based concerns. Locate Computer Science within a wider social and professional context. Demonstrate an understanding of the link between theory and practice.

During your 2nd year you will demonstrate a critical understanding and knowledge of principles and techniques of Computer Science.

You will be able to analyse, design, develop and evaluate a range of projects that utilise core concepts of Computer Science. You will also apply these principles to create a range of software and/or hardware entities.

The course will help you to demonstrate a knowledge of how Computer Science fits within a broader social, political and/or professional context. You may work independently as well as work effectively as part of a team on various projects.

By Year 3, you will be able to demonstrate a detailed subject knowledge and professional competence in analysis, design and development of appropriate computational solutions.

You will apply your high level project management skills, technical knowledge and creative techniques to the production of a final Computer Science project & report.

At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved. For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Maths in addition to any of the below;

Three A Levels at grade BCC or above
BTEC Extended Diploma at grade DMM
UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma
T Level (pass or above)
Access to Higher Education Diploma
International Baccalaureate at grade 24 or above
Other/Mixed qualifications equivalent to 104 UCAS Tariff points
