Student work and industry experience
BA (Hons) Product Design student interns with design and manufacturing company, Kesslers
Alex Devane, a student on Ravensbourne’s BA (Hons) Product Design course has been interning as a creative designer with award winning design and manufacturing company, Kesslers, since July 2017. Based in London, Kesslers have worked on projects for the likes of Farrow & Ball, L'Oreal, Brompton and countless others. Clive Scott, Director of Design at Kesslers also studied at Ravensbourne, graduating from the BA (Hons) Product Design course in 2000.
Alex will return to Ravensbourne to complete his degree after finishing his placement - which was organised through Ravensbourne Student Services’ internship support program - in July.
Speaking of his experiences in an interview in Create Magazine, Alex said: "Product design at Ravensbourne is all about preparing you for industry. Projects are often with real briefs for real clients. But there's still no better way to experience industry than to actually work in industry. That's why I jumped at the opportunity I got through the course to take a year out to work within a real design team."
Commenting on what has been like to have Alex interning with Kesslers, Clive said: “The experience has been great and really beneficial for ourselves and Alex. Being a Ravensbourne student, I knew we would be getting someone with excellent design skills and a highly creative way of thinking, and we haven’t been disappointed.
“Alex is a great team player and has shown a level of design thinking beyond his years. He has a real sense of the value of good design and more importantly a love of design that can’t be taught. On the back of this we look forward to future collaborations between Kesslers and Ravensbourne. We look forward to watching where Alex’s design career takes him, and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
