Wearable Tech Fashion & Arduino Software
This course runs weekly on Monday evenings 18:00 - 21:00 for 5 weeks.
We are living in a time where wearable tech is becoming omnipresent in many aspects of our everyday lives. They orbit the periphery of our bodies, taking the form of wristwatches and eyeglasses. They monitor our activities and immerse us in virtual environments. In the past decade, such technologies have improved in great strides and have been made modular so that anyone may craft and design their own wearable tech. Whether you are new to working with electronics or a tech enthusiast seeking to update your skills or a designer seeking to imbue a technological edge to your designs, this course is made for you.
In this course, you will be working with the LilyPad Arduino, which is a microcontroller board designed for wearables and e-textiles. It can be sewn to fabric and similarly mounted power supplies, sensors and actuators with conductive thread. You will also be using the Arduino Software which is an open-source program that will enable you to write code and upload it to your Lilypad Arduino.
You will also learn coding basics in order to program your own wearable tech projects and how you may effectively translate your circuitry onto textiles to make them wearable.
Once you have completed the course, you will then be able to:
- Begin building your own wearable tech projects
- Use basic coding to program your wearable tech projects via the Arduino Software
- Incorporate circuitry effectively onto textiles and garments to make them wearable
- Understand the role that sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, coding and data monitoring play in constructing an efficient wearable tech project
- Use other tools and components to expand your wearable tech projects
Minimum IT skills and computer literacy required to commence the course. Students should also know how to handstich.
Basic computer skills e.g saving, retrieving & opening files etc
IT skills gained on completion of the course such as basic, appropriate skills in – WordPress, Web based software & tools.
Students are required to bring their own laptops with Arduino software installed. If you would need a laptop, then please let us know in advance so we can reserve one for you.
