A chartered engineer, Bob started his career as an indentured apprentice ‘learning the art and craft of printing machinery manufacture’. He obtained his first degree in mechanical sciences by part-time study with the Open University whilst working as a manufacturing engineer. He subsequently gained a further Bachelors Degree, (BEd) in mathematics and physics from Manchester Metropolitan University before becoming a lecturer; he later obtained a MSc in advanced manufacturing systems from Brunel University also by part-time study.
Bob's association with Ravensbourne University began in 1998 teaching mathematics to students of broadcast technology. He has a tripartite approach to the teaching of mathematics with applications in aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering. Much of this work is also concerned with helping students from diverse educational backgrounds making the transition to university-level study.
