Professor Mike Short's career spans 38 years in electronics and telecommunications.
In 1989 he was appointed Director of Cellnet (now part of Telefonica and branded O2 UK) dealing with major infrastructure investments and commercial agreements. He has been Chairman of the Global GSM Association, Board member of the WAP FORUM, founder Board member of Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and Chairman and Honorary President of the UK Mobile Data Association.
He has been a member of the UK Home Office Internet Task Force, Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board, Home access to Broadband committee, UKTI ICT Sector Advisory Board, and London 2012 Advisory Committee.
Mike’s focus today is on European Public policy that relates to innovation, advanced mobile services and data applications including Mobile Learning, Smart Metering, Transport Telematics and Connected Healthcare. Mike is visiting professor at Surrey University, De Montfort, Lancaster, and Leeds Universities and on the Board of Coventry University.
He was awarded a CBE in July 2012 and an honorary Doctorate in 2008 for services to the mobile communications industry. He is a Fellow of IET/BCS/RGS/ Royal Academy and a Member of the Royal Television Society. He was recently President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
