Professor Elizabeth Rouse OBE has a professional background in strategic leadership and management in higher education and the art and design sector.
After studying social anthropology at Sussex University and the School of Oriental and African Studies, Elizabeth began her teaching career at the London College of Fashion where she became a Dean in 1995. From 2005-9 she was Chair of the International Foundation for Fashion Technology, an organisation bringing together leading fashion colleges from across the world.
She is now Professor Emerita of the University of the Arts London where she was Deputy Rector and Pro-Vice Chancellor until her retirement 2012. In this role she was responsible for research, academic development, quality and standards and the student experience and has led national projects promoting widening participation and graduate employability in the arts.
She served on the Higher Education Funding Council’s Teaching Quality and Student Experience Committee, and their Teaching Funding Advisory group and chaired the Advisory Committee on Open Educational Resources. She has extensive experience of academic governance in the university sector. Currently in addition to being a member of the Governing Body of Ravensbourne, she is Vice Chair of Governors at both Heartlands Academy Trust in Haringey and the Fashion Retail Academy, and sits on the Academic Board of the University of Law. She was formerly a Trustee of the charity Rathbone which supports and trains young people who have not succeeded in their secondary education.
