Lydia trained at Canterbury (now UCA) and graduated with a 1st class BA(Hons) in graphic design and an RSA Bursary. She spent a decade working for London design practices including Pentagram and Lewis Moberly and has had her own practice since 1991.
At studio Lydia Thornley, Lydia’s work encompasses graphic design, creative direction and live illustration. Her curious-minded approach has built a fascinating client list including Polar explorers, space scientists, honey producers, chefs, a City livery company, one of the Queen’s chaplains, countess charities and social enterprises and one of the 100 most influential Britons in the Internet’s first decade.
Having once cited nosiness as a core design skill, Lydia brings her interested, rigorous professional practice into her sessional tutoring, show and tell talks and workshops. Cultural engagement is also an important part of Lydia’s practice and she is a prolific filler of sketchbooks.
